National Water-Use Information Program
The USGS Wisconsin Water Science Center Water-Use Information Program is part of the National Water-Use Information Program, a component of the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS).
NWUIP databases
In order to document and assess regional or national trends in water use, the Water-Use Data System (WUDS) was developed and consists of two databases: Aggregate Water-Use Data System (AWUDS) and Site-specific Water-Use Data System (SWUDS).
The Aggregate Water-Use Data System (AWUDS) database, first used in 1985, was specifically designed to store and manipulate the aggregate water-use information compiled for the 5-year USGS water-use efforts by county, hydrologic unit, and aquifer.
The Site-specific Water-Use Data System (SWUDS) database stores measurements and estimates of water use by individual users, and in Wisconsin, it is currently being redeveloped.
National Water Information System
The National Water Information System (NWIS) provides unbiased, science-based information on the Nation's water resources. NWIS provides access to water-resources data collected at approximately 1.5 million sites in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Online access to this data is organized by surface water, ground water, and water quality categories.

At this time, water-use data are not available through NWIS. Wisconsin water-use reports are available on our website.
